This is the La Jolla Cove Bridge Club, and it's a clue as to how La Jolla got to where it is today.

We're walking through Ellen Browning Scripps Park, named for one of the most important figures behind La Jolla's rapid expansion.

Stop At: Seal Rock, San Diego, CA 92037, USA

See the small, rocky island just off the coast? That's Seal Rock. Thousands of harbor seals and sea lions gather here every day to bask in the sun, rest after catching fish, and, if the season's right, squabble over mates.

Coming up on your right is a famous, and curious, La Jolla spot: Children's Pool Beach. Pullover and pause in front.

Stop At: Cuvier Park - The Wedding Bowl, 555 Coast Blvd S, La Jolla, San Diego, CA 92037-4641

On your right is Cuvier Park, the most popular place in San Diego to tie the knot. In fact, it's such a beloved destination for soon-to-be-married couples that some call it The Wedding Bowl. Given its picturesque location by the water, I'm sure you can see why.

Ahead, keep right and slow down as you drive. Of course, La Jolla's history didn't begin when humans arrived here. Life on the Pacific coast has been thriving for millions of years.

Stop At: La Jolla Woman's Club, 7791 Draper Ave, La Jolla, CA 92037, USA

In a few blocks, we're going to see a small building with a long history. It's the La Jolla Woman's Club, founded by - who else? - Ellen Scripps. When the club began in 1901, American women lacked any sort of equality, with no right to vote, and no right to custody of their children.

Stop At: St James by-The-Sea Episcopal Church, 743 Prospect St, La Jolla, San Diego, CA 92037-4229

Do you see a peach-colored belltower ahead? That's St. James by-the-Sea Episcopal Church. It dates to 1908 and, like much of La Jolla, owes its existence to Ellen Scripps.

The white Spanish-revival building with terracotta shingles and arched windows is a must for lovers of the arts. It's the Athenaeum Music & Arts Library.

Stop At: Mt. Soledad National Veterans Memorial, 6905 La Jolla Scenic Drive South, La Jolla, San Diego, CA 92037

Mt. Soledad National Veterans Memorial Considered one of the most unique veterans memorials in America. The only memorial that honors veterans, living or deceased, from the revolutionary war to the current war on terror, with an image of the veteran.

Stop At: Jose's Court Room, 1037 Prospect St, La Jolla, CA 92037, USA

The white cross on that hill marks a solemn and at times controversial location: the Mt. Soledad National Veteran’s Memorial.

Stop At: Windansea Beach, 6800 Neptune Place, La Jolla, San Diego, CA 92083

Windansea is what’s known as a surf break. Rocky obstructions under the water here cause waves to break and also form those classic barrel-shaped curls that make for radical surfing.

    The tour was terrible. It took you back and forth in the same areas and would not continually play even when im an area that is marked for the tour. Drive la Jolla and explore on your own. You will have a better experience

    I highly recommend this! I learner history of La Jolla and interesting facts about the area. It was so easy to use from my phone and it was a fabulous experience!
